2010 Give!Guide Goes Live On November 10th

Beginning November 10, 2010, Literary Arts will join other Portland-area non-profits in participating in Willamette Week‘s seventh annual Give!Guide campaign, designed to get local residents excited about donating to organizations who are doing great things for the community.

There are some great incentives available for donors from both Willamette Week and Literary Arts, including tickets to the Moth (with VIP passes to an exclusive Moth party!), 25 one-night stays at Portland’s grand Heathman Hotel, a private wine tasting at Et Fille Wines, and seats at private dinners with Bill Bryson and Elizabeth Strout!

Top Reasons to Donate

Are you looking for a way to donate this holiday season? Making good money for the first time in your life? Why not consider skipping a few of those Starbucks holiday drinks or that beer at the end of the night, and give to Literary Arts or another non-profit of your choice. Yup, those few skipped peppermint mochas can make a positive impact on various programs and fellowships.

Donations from $10 to $500 have a distinct, positive impact to readers and writers. For instance, $15 covers the postage and envelopes to mail awards to Oregon Literary Fellowship recipients. A few more nights in and you can make a $35 donation to send a box of poetry or books across the country to be judged for the Oregon Book Awards.

Feeling really giving? $45 supports an hour of one-on-one writing skills mentoring and $75 sponsors one student for Writers in the Schools. Larger donations of $100 would provide free copies of the Writers in the Schools Student Anthology to featured students, so they can see their hard work in print, and $1000 is enough to send a local writer into a Portland Public Schools classroom for a whole semester.

Whatever way you decide to save, your donation ensures that Literary Arts can continue to bring literature and literacy to Oregon.

Literary Arts and Powell’s Books present Greg Mortenson- Stones Into Schools on Dececember 14^th. Don’t miss the opportunity to come to the sold-out event by making a donation of $100 or more to Literary arts through Give!Guide and you’ll get a free ticket as a Thank you!

Mortenson will be speaking about his continuous effort in establishing schools for girls in Afghanistan and his work in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake hit. He will also be sharing how his unique experiences and relationships built with Islamic clerics, militia commanders and tribal leaders have influenced his vision to promote and enhance peace through education and literacy.
